Read on- this is an explanation of how sound and light
machines work from Michael Stevens, Co-owner of Theta Co...

                      My Whole Life Changed

“Sound enabled me to grow up without getting older,” Michael
Stevens, co-owner of Theta Technologies, emphatically stated.
“The sound and light technologies changed by whole belief
system, my whole life.”
“Now that was a big statement!” I ventured. (I am Jill Mattson!
Interviewing Mr. Stevens!)
“Where do I even start to tell Michael’s story with the size of this
claim?” I mused. With a stroke of genius, I decided to start at the
beginning.
“Michael,” I ventured cautiously, “How did your adventure in
sound and light begin?”
Michael started slowly, “At the grand old age of 35, I left the
corporate world, no more managing carpet stores for me.”
I wondered, “I guess his store didn’t sell flying carpets!” I
listened on.
Michael continued, “One day my neighbor yelled over the fence
for me to come over. He needed someone from ‘main stream
business’ to give him an opinion. I was unemployed. I had the
time. So, in his house I went. He walked me to a dark closet with
a chair in it. I was to close myself in the dark and experience a
machine.”
“The scary music should start now,” I imagined.
Michael was still talking slowly. “Thirty minutes later, I groped
my way down the dark hall and sat on his steps, rested and
feeling light. I asked my neighbor what he was going to do with
that machine. He told me that he planned to sell them. I
responded, ‘Me, too!’”
My imagination went wild with the thoughts of what kind of
machine helps someone know what he wants to do with his life?
Is this machine alive? Did it have flashing colored lights that
made it look like an eerie person? How did it give Michael a
direction for his life that he believed had meaning? Why was it
“in the closet?”
“What is this machine and who invented it?” I blurted out.
“Let’s start with who invented it,” Michael began. “Sound and
light were used in the caveman days, and it created hypnotic
states. After the caveman watched the fire for a while his brain
vibrated in sync with the fire, about 8 – 10 cycles per second, a
theta-functioning level of the brain. Scientifically speaking, the
flicker of a campfire flows through the mind, through the center
of the brain to the visual cortex. Approximately 40 percent of the
caveman’s brain can be affected by light, so the rest of the brain
may be indirectly affected, also. There may also be a drummer
in the corner of the cave,” continued Michael, “creating shaman-
like experiences with rhythms and pitches. Sound affects about
20 percent of the brain, so the combined impact is that almost
60 percent of the caveman’s brain vibrated into a theta brain
wave state. Given that the brain is the computer for the rest of
your body, the theta brain wave in turn affects the rest of the
body.  The caveman’s whole body’s grooving with the fire and
drumbeats.”
“What happens to the caveman when his brain beats in the
theta brain wave state?” I queried.
“Different brain waves allow us to have different experiences.
The neurochemistry of the restful sleep is found in the theta
brain wave range. Theta is also the vibrational state of deep
meditation. Throughout history, cultures cultivate the activity of
meditation because of the benefits, except our culture. Western
culture deems meditation ‘voodoo.’ However, meditation
enables a person to think one thought, instead of listening to a
stream of babbling monkeys that constantly chatter in someone’
s mind.”
“I hope Michael is not referring to me,” I wonder.
Michael continues,  “Activity is the enemy of thought. Many
spend every minute being busy, to avoid being in touch with
themselves and they work into a frenzy of busyness. Constant
activity becomes a habit. They don’t even think which thoughts
are their own versus thoughts they were told as a child. When
you slow down your brain, you become more conscious of who
you really are, not who someone else said that you should be.”
Michael’s words flowed steadily. “With continued usage of the
sound and light machine, I questioned beliefs that I was told as
a child. Many people told me how to behave, what I should be
doing, and what I needed to do to be successful in life. When I
was told how to do things, I believed people and took their
words as reality. When I became what everyone else thought I
should be, the good parts of me went by the wayside. I didn’t fit
into the standard human mold. At the age of 35 years, what I
had turned into… had nothing to do with who I was. I certainly
wasn’t Mr. Mainstream Businessman. Not only did I not know
whom I was, but I wasn’t conscious that I didn’t know either.
“I believed only in things I could see and touch. I also believed I
was afraid of nothing. Several years after using the sound and
light machine I realized I had hidden fears and I had adopted
evasive behavior to avoid people or situations. I was afraid of
life. My thinking thereafter changed to understanding that I only
was afraid of myself. That is the one thing I can control and
change. With this final evolution of thought, peace came to me.
“When I honored and understood who I was, life got easier. I got
in the flow of things. I stopped being a victim. Before, I wasn’t
even conscious that I was choosing to be a victim.
“I was like a person who had stored junk in his garage for 35
years. It was too overwhelming to clean it up, so I just stashed
more and more junk. (The garage is like my unconscious mind.)
When I took a few boxes out of the garage and threw them
away, my emotions kicked in, I remembered things from my
childhood that weren’t pleasant and so on. The garage was full
of junk I didn’t want to face. It took me years to clear the
wreckage of past turmoil,” Michael summarized.
“This sounded like the death of Mr. Carpet Man,” I mumbled.
“People walk on the surface of themselves.” Michael continued.
“The irony is that they don’t even know it. If you are going to
improve yourself, you have to clean up stored emotional junk.
There are two things that can happen to you in life. You get
better as a person, or you get worse. Either you face your fears
and improve, or you get worse because you store more of them
as emotional baggage. There is no middle ground.”
Michael continued:
“* The more aware a person is, the better he can deal with life in
general.
* The more relaxed a person is, the better he can deal with life
in general.
* The better rested a person is, the better he can deal with life in
general.”
Michael’s voice was growing more definite. “The less cluttered
your mind is, the more open you are to suggestion. You can
hear your own inner voice.
“My healthy relationships improved as I got in touch with myself.
My unhealthy relationships disappeared, and that’s healthy too.
“It could have taken me a lifetime to have this positive move
forward, and I did it in a short time with the sound light
machines.” Michael’s voice was at its peak.
“That’s tremendous change from sound and light machines!” I
marveled.
“It happened over several years, as a result of me vibrating my
brain waves slower,” Michael clarified. “When your brain
vibrates at certain frequencies, you change your experience and
your consciousness. You change you. You become who you
were meant to be. Sound and light machines do this easily and
quickly.
“Meditation can take a long time to learn, but with sound and
light machines, one can start to get results in twenty minutes.
Quickly, one goes to restful theta brain activity, gets energized
and increases his learning speed.”
“Perhaps our cells are like batteries. When we slow down, way
down, they get a chance to reenergize?” I mused.
“As I used our sound light machines, my world started to
change. All of a sudden, I was achieving states of
consciousness that a monk could spend years to learn. That is
how I grew up without aging. My frequencies changed rapidly
with sound and light.

“I wanted to share this gift with the world. At first, we infiltrated
the people known as the ‘Woo-Woos,’” Michael explained.
“Whoa!” I halted the flow of conversation. “What’s a Woo-Woo?”
Oh, yes, I wanted to know what was a “Woo-Woo!” Was it an
extraterrestrial being?
“A ‘Woo-Woo’ is one of those people who always wear purple T-
shirts and crystals,” Michael explained.
My breath stopped and in a knee jerk reaction as my hand
slapped my purple T-shirt, covering my crystal necklace. I didn’t
want to hear anymore about “Woo-Woos.”

Michael reflected, “I feel good about what I do with my life now.
People tell us all the time that their lives change after
experiencing these frequencies from sound and light machines.
The neat thing is that the sound and light machine is just a
training tool. Once people use the machine for an extended
period of time, they can create the frequency in their brains
because this state of activity is now a habit! They no longer
need the sound and light as a stimulus!”
Michael continued on how his life changed when he used the
light and sound machine. “When a person’s pain is greater than
his fear of change, then he makes changes in his life. Me?
Since I altered my brain wave frequencies with the sound and
light machine, I am able to change quicker….. using fear to
mobilize me, not immobilize me. I have also noticed that I have
lowered my threshold for pain, because I am able to change
quickly when the situation calls for it.”
“Can you describe a specific experience that resulted from the
sound light machines?” I asked, looking for more details.
“After using the ‘relax’ frequency, I became conscious during
sleep all night long.” Michael smiled. “In this case, being a
human is a detriment.”
I wondered, “What would the alternative be? When are we not
humans? I wasn’t sure I wanted an answer to that question!”
Michael was talking fast now, as his ideas flowed out of him.
“Your subconscious mind is more powerful than the conscious
mind. For example, when you sleep, the subconscious mind is
free to process information. So, when I was conscious during
sleep, my subconscious mind could not take care of necessary
business,” Michael clarified. “It is like God took the most
powerful thing in the universe, unconditional love, and shoved it
into a physical form, similar to that of a monkey. Therein lies the
rub.”
And God thought, “Let the fun begin!”
“This experience, out-of-body experiences and so many other
experiences pushed my thinking into bigger arenas. I could no
longer contain myself to thinking about the material world,”
Michael concluded. “My world got a lot bigger.”
“What a Woo-Woo!” I mused.

The Light and Sound Machines

“What do these amazing machines look like?” I asked, hoping
the machines didn’t need a dark closet to work.
My fears were relieved as Michael showed me the little hand
held machines, with several buttons, earphones and sunglasses
attached. One selected a program, such as relax, learn, change,
or energize. Then you put on the sunglasses that had little
flickering lights, closed your eyes and put on the earphones.
I know that the brain can only hear one tone, but different tones
can be fed into each ear. The brain takes the average of the two
frequencies and you perceive you hear a pulsing sound at the
averaged pitch of the two tones. This sound is called a binaural
beat. Your brain will match the frequency of the binaural beat in
a matter of minutes.
When you put on the glasses and close your eyes, you see
flickering colored lights. This light uses neural pathways in your
brain, affecting up to 40 percent of your brain.
Michael continued, “Between the sound and the light, you flood
your brain (the computer for your body) with frequencies that
calm and focus your mind. The machine entrains your brain into
a powerful state of mind--theta. In this mental state, the size of
your thought’s wavelengths can be amplified seven times. Both
sides of your brain are in use, giving you full brainpower, rather
than the typical right OR left brain functions we use in our daily
life. Your awareness and ability to focus increase. Your speed
of learning improves too.”
“How could this assist the elderly, who find themselves
forgetting things all the time?” I asked.
“When we age, some brain cells lose their neural circuitry. The
brain cells shrink and loose extensions to other cells, making
information harder to retrieve. Stimulating your brain is
exercising it. You can create new neural pathways at any point
in your life. The flashing lights create new neural pathways in
one’s brain. It can build a new bridge to retrieve information,”
Michael answered.
I read a study from UCLA in which Dr. Marion Diamond found
that brains of stimulated rats weighed more than brains of rats
that weren’t stimulated. The stimulated rats also had more
extensions to retrieve information. Diamond also discovered that
stimulated rats developed a stronger immune defense response
than those not stimulated. I was ready to volunteer to be
“stimulated” with light and sound.
An article by Thomas Budzynski, Ph.D. flashed in my mind. It
was entitled, “Why is it so hard to be happy?”  It said: “Some
experts say that it is because we are burdened by negative, self-
destructive, unconscious ‘scripts’ which are ‘programmed’ into
us early in life. We start out as innocent, expressive, asking-for-
what-we-want, loving, trusting little babies. How did we get to
the point where we are fearful, distrusting, stressed, self-
destructive adults? Our mothers, fathers, siblings, teachers,
ministers, other children, and other adults managed to scare,
punish degrade, embarrass, humiliate, and confuse us, not to
mention, acted as bad role models.”
Dr. Budzynski suggests that frequently going into a theta brain
wave state with a sound light machine can break the loop of
negative, habitual thinking.
Michael added, “Our unconscious mind automatically repeats
thoughts we think often. By repeating thoughts we create
ongoing inner dialogues that are like a fountain of impulses and
unconscious thoughts at the core of our being. Unfortunately,
most of us think fearful thoughts repeatedly, creating negative
loops of thinking in our unconscious minds. For example, my
daughter is deathly afraid of spiders. Why is she afraid of
spiders and I am not? It is just one of her negative thinking
patterns.
These negative thinking patterns are frequency patterns that
are run by our unconscious minds. These loops can be stopped
with sound-light machines. In the theta state of mind we are
open to new suggestions. We use the sound-light machine, go
to a theta brain state and imagine a better habit. For example,
our automated thought regarding eating could be ‘junk food is
yummy.’ We want to replace the automatic thought with ‘I feel
great when I eat healthy foods.’ To acquire this new habit we
need to think this new thought many times. The number of times
we need to think this new healthy thought is greatly reduced, if
we think the new thought in a theta brainwave state. In
summary, we can use theta brain waves to make changes
easier.
“Are these machines costly?” I peeped, hoping the answer to be
NO. I learned that they could be obtained for as little as $189 to
$249. There is also a more powerful sound and light machine
with 50 different programs that can be updated with special
programs.”
“How can one buy a sound and light machine?” I continued.
“Call Theta Technologies! To order call, (425) 222-6962 or
(800) 395-9148, Pacific Time and say hello to Michael.”

I couldn’t stand my feeling of anxiousness. I tried the little hand-
held sound-light machine.
My first venture with the sound and light machine wasn’t life
changing, but I felt like I was Frankenstein, with electricity
zapping through my brain. “This is opening up more of my
brain,” I smiled with satisfaction.
A friend grabbed the machine from me and tried the “relax”
program. Within minutes, she was slumped over, although still
sitting. After her restful sojourn, she reported her long-standing
pain in her shoulder was gone.
I got into a routine of waking up a half an hour earlier in the
morning, when I am not in a deep state of sleep. I use the sound
light machine to slip back into a deep state of relaxation
(extending the amount of deep sleep that I get), and then I cross
over into an “energize” program. When I wake up, I feel like I
have slept the day away, and yet it is still morning! I feel great.
Without the sound and light machine, I can barely shuffle into
the bathroom.
I can’t tell if my life is changing, as I already meditate quite a bit
and have experienced the benefits from stillness of mind.
However, I feel peaceful and am more able to flow through the
day without problems causing stress. My memory is better than
when I was younger. I learn quickly and I love life.

P.S. While reviewing this manuscript, Michael told me of a near
death experience he had. It gave me goose bumps. With
Michael’s permission, I’m sharing it with you.
Michael began, “After six days in Intensive Care with severe
pneumonia, I suddenly found myself up in the corner of the
ceiling looking down at my body.”
I wondered if young Michael wanted to be a gargoyle when he
grew up?
“I felt like I went to sleep in the desert with my partner. When I
woke up in the morning, not only was my partner gone, but all
the water and supplies. My partner was my body, and it left me
high and dry.
“Moments later, my body seemed like a discarded, empty water
bottle,” Michael said without any depression in his voice. I had
no emotional attachment to my body. It was just something I was
done with.
I was all alone. No, this was deeper than alone. There was
nothing and no one to create an illusion of safety, control or
reassuring comfort. I was all there was.
“Then luminous, glowing, clear and yet white light came from
everywhere. The pulsating and translucent light loosely formed
into puffy clouds that rotated from left to right in the penetrating
black sky all around me.
“Each puff was a part of the whole, but yet separate. Just as a
drop of water is separate in the ocean, but more a part of the
whole ocean.
“Me? I wasn’t the same me that I was on earth. In fact I had no
memory of earth. I was pure awareness and consciousness. I
saw in all directions at once. I saw so far that our universe was
only a pebble in my view. I knew everything that was going on
everywhere I could see, and everything in the universe was the
way it should be. There were no questions and no answers,
because everything made sense.
“When I was this energy, I felt wonderful beyond my ability to
describe. It was as if you took all the love you have ever felt and
have given in your entire lifetime and multiplied that by infinity,
and then you still would not be close to how I felt. I was
unbelievably joyful, and even being in a healthy body was an
unfathomable depravation of love and joy,” Michael concluded.

“The spirits of the luminous-lighted clouds, as one unified being,
spoke to me, ‘Michael, do you want to stay or go back?’
“The first 35 years of my life had been no fun. Just in the last
five years, I started to enJOY myself. I wanted to bring that joy
to others. Therefore, I was not done with my earth journey.
“Immediately, I was back in my body with nurses getting ready to
kick-start my heart. Four and one half minutes had passed since
I had ‘technically’ died.”

Michael believes that many people see loved ones that have
already passed on when they die, as this scenario is a bridge to
ease them into the strange and blissful “other-side.”
Michael got welcomed to the other side by the Stay Puffed
Marshmallow Man who had been a ferocious windstorm.
Hmmmmm…I scratched my chin. “I wonder what that signifies.”
Excuse my thought wanderings. Michael wants to get back to
the meaning of his story.
With pulsating wisdom, Michael revealed: “We incarnate on
Earth to:
1. Love one another
The love we give, comes back. We are not separate from our
gifts of love.
2. Enjoy ourselves.
When we act with love, we radiate love into others. We are
energy and we are not separate from others. Therefore, we
should constantly fill ourselves with joy, uplifting thoughts and
positive feelings, and these things become part of those around
us. Without being conscious of it, whenever we feel negativity,
we give that to those we love too.

These two rules are like two sides of one coin.
To put in another way:
Loving others brings love to ourselves,
and loving ourselves brings love to others.
Or another way of saying it is:
When we deprive those around us, we deprive ourselves,
and when we deprive ourselves, we deprive others.
Or yet another way of saying it is:
When we enjoy ourselves, we enjoy others,
and when we enjoy others, we enjoy ourselves.

For example, grandmothers love their grandchildren, but they
mix their love with guilt and shame when their grandchild
‘misbehaves.’ The grandmothers achieve partial success
because they love their grandchildren, but they fall short on the
‘enjoy yourself’ part. They choose to feel condemnation, instead
of joy.
“I want to follow these truths in all ways and always,” Michael
confessed. “Some days I do and some days I don’t. Some days I
see a tree and feel its beauty and some days I notice bugs
hanging around it.”
After being hugged by Michael’s words, I felt uplifted and I also
saw Michael’s tree bugs. One bug carried a green plastic purse
and wore gaudy beads. This dolled-up bug was singing and
enjoying the harmony under the tree. And! The eternal sage,
Michael’s Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man, left me with peace.
“Everything is as it should be.”
